Chignik Lagoon Environmental Ordinances

NATIVE VILLAGE OF CHIGNIK LAGOON
Ordinance No. 01-2017
 
SPEED LIMITS
 
Article 1
​Section 1.  Establishment of set speed limits.  This ordinance shall be known as the “Speed Limit Ordinance of the Native Village of Chignik Lagoon.”  Authority for this ordinance comes from the inherent power of the village as a federally recognized Alaska Native community to determine its own speed limits or, if there is a constitution, “authority derives from article III of the village constitution.”
 
Section 2.  Effective date.  This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon adoption, or by vote of the council.
  
 
Article II – Speed limits
 
Section 1.  The Native Village of Chignik Lagoon hereby determines that the unregulated speed limits on Chignik Lagoon streets or portions thereof are unreasonable, unsafe and imprudent and modifies such speed limits as follows:
  1. SPEED LIMITS SET.  Speed limits are set as follows upon the following designated streets or portions thereof:
​​​                                                           (A) All roadways 15 miles per hour on all streets in the village

RECYCLING
 
Article I

Section 1. Solid waste and recycling service. This ordinance shall be known as “Recycling Ordinance of the Native Village of Chignik Lagoon.” Authority for this ordinance comes from the inherent power of the village as a federally recognized Alaska native Community to determine its own recycling plan or, if there is a constitution, “authority derives from article III of the village constitution.”
Section 2. Effective date. This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon adoption, or by vote of the council.
 
Article II - Recycling

Section 1. The Native Village of Chignik Lagoon hereby determines that the unregulated recycling in the Chignik Lagoon Village is not environmentally friendly, unsafe for community members and wildlife and should be modified as follows:
  1. Recycling service. Recycling services will include: a pickup service when requested by residents, a drop off location when pickup is not available, and bins that will be provided for holding/separating recyclable materials.
  2. Frequency for residential recycling services. Unless prevented by weather conditions, labor disputes, or other circumstances beyond its control, IGAP shall collect recyclable materials, such as, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and lead acid batteries once a month from each residential customer at their request.
